Schema markup

What is schema markup, and why does your website need it?

Schema markup is code (usually in JSON-LD format) that you add to your website to spell out what each thing is: this is a business, this is a price, this is an opening time. Search engines and AI tools read it to understand your page without guessing, so they can show you with the right details.

A human visitor instantly gets that "Manolo's Bar" is a bar, opens at 9, and sits in Granada. A search engine or an AI assistant doesn't have it that easy; they just see loose text. Schema markup is like sticking a clear label on every piece of data so there's no doubt. Google recommends the JSON-LD format because it's the easiest to add and maintain. It won't guarantee the top spot or extra visuals in the results, but it removes the guesswork and improves your odds of showing up with your address, rating, or price. And it matters more and more for whether ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity recommend your business when someone asks.

Frequently asked questions

I can't code. Can I still use this generator?

Yes. You don't need to know any code. You pick the schema type, fill in a normal form (name, address, opening hours...) and the tool hands you the finished JSON-LD code. You just copy it and paste it into your site once. To paste it on platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Shopify you don't need programming either: you do it from your site's dashboard or with a simple plugin.

Which schema type should I choose for my case?

It depends on what you have. If you run a physical location (bar, salon, shop, garage), use "Local business": it's the most important one for showing up with your address, hours, and phone. If you're a company or brand without a public storefront, use "Organization". For blog posts, use "Article". For a product you sell, use "Product". "Breadcrumb" marks a page's navigation path, and "FAQ" marks your frequently asked questions. You can use more than one on the same site.

Where do I paste the JSON-LD code on my website?

The code goes inside the page's "head" tag, though Google also accepts it inside the "body". You don't need to edit files by hand: on WordPress you can use a plugin like "Insert Headers and Footers"; on Wix it's under Settings → Advanced SEO; on Shopify you edit the theme.liquid file. Paste the code exactly as we give it to you, save, and you're done. Afterwards it's worth checking it's valid with the Schema.org validator.

Does schema markup help me rank higher on Google?

It's not a direct ranking factor: adding schema won't push you up the list on its own. What it does is give you the chance (not a guarantee) to appear with rich results, like your star rating, price, or opening hours. That tends to attract more clicks. So it doesn't help SEO by raising positions, but it does improve how you're shown and makes your listing more eye-catching when you meet the requirements.

Is FAQ schema still worth it now that Google no longer shows it?

Since May 2026 Google no longer shows the FAQ drop-down panel in its results, so don't expect that visual feature. But FAQ schema is still valid and useful: it helps search engines and, above all, AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity clearly understand your questions and answers so they can cite them. If AI visibility matters to you, it's worth keeping.

Do you know if AIs understand you correctly?

Schema is only part of it. Measure your real visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
